Why stop at merely making it work? The ultimate fix includes performance mods.

PS3 PKG files require companion .rap files (literally “RAP” – Rights Authentication Protocol) to unlock the content. Without the correct rap file, the game remains in “trial mode” or refuses to launch entirely. Many users download the PKG but forget the rap file, or download a rap file that is incompatible with their specific firmware version.
This method creates a standalone package file that installs to the XMB like a PSN game, bypassing the launch errors of the folder format.
This method extracts the PKG, fixes the EBOOT, and converts the game to a standard folder format. Why stop at merely making it work
Step 1: Install the PKG normally
Copy the PKG to dev_usb000/ (root of USB). On your PS3, go to Package Manager → Install Package Files → Standard → select the PKG. Install to internal HDD.
Step 2: Extract game files
Launch multiMAN. Navigate to the game under PS3 Games – it will appear as a disc icon with a PKG label. Press Triangle → Extract Package (or “Convert to ISO/Folder”). This unpacks the PKG into a standard game folder:
dev_hdd0/GAME/BLES00559/ (or similar title ID).
Step 3: Replace EBOOT.BIN
Download a fixed EBOOT.BIN for Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (search “BLES00559 EBOOT fixed” or “NPUB30155 EBOOT” depending on region).
Using FTP or multiMAN’s file manager, navigate to dev_hdd0/GAME/[TitleID]/USRDIR/.
Replace the existing EBOOT.BIN with the fixed one.
(Optional: If no fixed EBOOT exists, use “EBOOT Fix” plugin in multiMAN under Settings → Plugins → Patch EBOOT for CFW.) Result: The game renders internally at 1080p, eliminating
Step 4: Delete the original PKG installation
Go to Game Data Utility on XMB – delete the PKG’s installed data (not saves). Then return to multiMAN. The extracted folder game should now appear. Launch it. It should work.
If PKG issues persist:
The official PKG release of this game (NPUB-30447 for US/NPJB-00142 for JP) includes digital rights management (DRM) checks that look for a genuine PSN license. On a standard, unmodded console, your PSN account’s act.dat file provides this. On a modded console running Rebug, Evilnat, or HEN, the DRM often fails, leading to error 80010017 (Corrupted data or failed license validation).
