For GOG users or those playing from a disc, the language is often determined by a configuration file. The game lacks a dedicated "Options" menu for text language, so you must edit the Engine file manually.

Step 1: Locate the Configuration File The file is usually located in the game's installation folder or your Documents folder.

Step 2: Open Engine.ini

Step 3: Edit the Language Line

  • Save the file (File -> Save) and close Notepad.
  • Step 4: Set File to Read-Only (Crucial Step) The game tends to overwrite this file when it launches, resetting it back to the default language. To prevent this:

  • Launch the Game: The game will automatically detect the new system language and change its text and subtitles to match.
  • Audio Limitation: Crucially, the PS3 version (especially the US release) does not include multiple voice tracks on the disc. Changing the system language will change subtitles and menus but not the spoken dialogue. The Prince will still speak English. Only PAL (European) versions contain full audio for French, German, and Spanish.
  • For both Steam and the GOG (Good Old Games) version, the most reliable method involves editing a configuration file.

  • Open the file called GamerProfile with Notepad (or Notepad++).
  • Look for the line: <GamerProfile ... TextLanguage="en" AudioLanguage="en" ...>
  • Change the values. For example, for French audio with English text: TextLanguage="en" AudioLanguage="fr"
  • Crucial Note: The game must support that audio language natively. If you have the standard US retail version, changing AudioLanguage to de will result in silence during cutscenes because the German voice files aren't on your hard drive.
  • The Xbox 360 version behaves similarly to the PS3 but with a regional lock.

Backward Compatibility Warning: On Xbox Series X|S, the emulator often locks the language to whatever your Xbox system language is at boot. Make sure your console is set to English (US) for the original English banter.
