Z Os Adcd 1.13 - 13 Here
Surprisingly, even in 2025, many mainframe learning environments still reference z/OS 1.13 ADCD because:
ADCD 1.13 is now out of support (z/OS V2R3 end of support: September 2022). Recommended upgrade paths: Z Os Adcd 1.13 - 13
| Target | Action | |--------|--------| | ADCD 1.15 (z/OS V2R4) | Redeploy new ADCD | | ADCD 2.1 (z/OS V2R5) | Redeploy new ADCD | | ADCD 2.2 (z/OS V3R1) | Redeploy new ADCD | ADCD 1
Do not attempt in-place upgrades; ADCD is a fixed distribution, not a production sysplex. ADCD is a fixed distribution
The Application Development and Controlled Distribution (ADCD) is a special purpose distribution of IBM’s z/OS operating system. Unlike a production system, which is tailored for high availability and security, the ADCD is designed for development, testing, education, and proof-of-concept environments.
z/OS ADCD 1.13 represents a pivotal moment in mainframe history. It was the last release before IBM introduced major architectural shifts in z/OS 2.1 (64-bit addressing for much of the control blocks and cross-memory services). For many institutions, V1R13 is considered the “classic modern” mainframe environment—mature, highly stable, and the final version to run on older hardware like the IBM z10 and z196 without requiring the microcode updates needed for z/OS 2.x.
