A: YouTube changed their internal code in October 2024. For Android 4.4.2, you need a client that uses the "Innertube" legacy API. NewPipe 0.21.13 still works as of this writing. If it breaks, switch to SkyTube (another open-source alternative for KitKat).

Note: Vanced is discontinued, but old APKs still work on KitKat.

If you want background play, audio-only mode, and zero ads, NewPipe is objectively better than the official YouTube app on any device, especially Android 4.4.2.
