It is vital to understand that Ross-Tech does not support cloned interfaces. If you send a clone to them, they will confiscate it and offer a discount on a genuine unit.

Disconnect the programmer, plug the interface into your PC via USB. Windows should detect it as a "Ross-Tech HEX-V2" (or similar). Open the VCDS software and run a system test. vcds 2231 hex v2 clone repair extra quality
Symptom: Cable lights up but VCDS says “Unknown device.” Standard fix: Reflash STM32 with generic firmware (often fails). Extra-quality fix: Use a J-link SWD programmer to dump the original 22.3.1 bootloader from a working cable and verify the checksum. Then, lock the flash pages to prevent accidental overwriting.
The Problem: The clone uses an AMS1117-3.3. This requires a 1.25v differential. If your car outputs 15v (alternator charging), the regulator dissipates (15-3.3) * 0.1A = 1.17 watts of heat. Too much for a tiny SOT-223 package. This is where we separate the hobbyist from the professional
