ABOUT US
What's remembered, lives. What's archived, stays. Despite all our interest in nostalgia and passion for movies, too little has been done to document the history of Bengal's cinema from the previous century. The pandemic came as a wake-up call for us. As a passionate group of film enthusiasts, we decided to create a digital platform that inspires artists and audiences alike. That's how Bengal Film Archive (BFA) was conceived as a bilingual e-archive. At this one-stop digital cine-cyclopedia, we have not just tried to archive facts, trivia, features, interviews and biographical sketches but also included interactive online games regarding old and contemporary Bengali cinema

Sound of Music

Since the advent of the talkie era, playback has played a big role in Bengali cinema. From Kanan Devi’s Ami banaphool go to Arati Mukhopadhyay’s Ami Miss Calutta  our films have a song for every emotion. In this segment, BFA tunes in to the music composers, singers and lyricists who made all that happen. The bonus is a chance to listen to the BFA-curated list of hits across seven decades!

Travian operates on a "Gold" premium currency. While you can play for free, using Gold (especially Plus Account and Gold Club) provides massive advantages:

Strategy: Spend a small amount of gold on the first day (e.g., for a 3-day Plus Account). Use it to rush your resource fields. A free player can compete, but expect to work twice as hard.

  • Build Resource Fields in this priority:
  • Score: 7/10 (for the first week) Score: 4/10 (if you realize you are a "farm" for a gold user)

The Bottom Line: The start of a Travian server is the best and worst of old-school browser MMOs. The tension, the math, and the paranoia are unmatched in modern gaming. However, the game has not evolved its monetization strategy well. If you enter knowing you are probably cattle, not a cowboy, and just want to play a relaxed "Roman defensive" style, it’s a great 2-week distraction.

If you want to win the server? Prepare to spend money, lose sleep, and betray your neighbors. The server start doesn't reward the best strategist; it rewards the most available player.

Recommended for: Retired RTS players, masochists, logistics nerds. Avoid if: You value sleep or hate pay-to-win mechanics.

Starting a new Travian server is a race against time where every minute of "protection" counts. To succeed, you need a balance between aggressive resource expansion and preparing for your second village. Phase 1: The First 24 Hours (The "Quest Rush")

Your primary goal is to complete the tutorial quests as fast as possible. These provide the massive resource injections needed to bypass the slow natural production phase.

Resource Management: Focus on Crop early. Beginners often stall because they run out of food for their population. Keep your Granary ahead of your storage.

Hero Power: Put all your Hero's initial attribute points into Attack Strength. This allows you to clear nearby Oases or adventures with minimal health loss, bringing back valuable resources or equipment.

Infrastructure: Build only what the quests require. Don't waste resources on a Wall or many Troop levels until your resource fields are at least Level 3–4. Phase 2: Preparation for Village #2

The mid-game is decided by who settles their second village first. In most competitive servers, this happens within 3 to 6 days.

Residence vs. Palace: Build a Residence to level 10. It is cheaper and faster than a Palace for your first expansion. Culture Points (CP): This is the hidden bottleneck. Build a Town Hall as soon as you can afford it.

Run Small Celebrations constantly to boost your CP production.

Settlers: You need 3 Settlers and 750 of each resource to settle. Start training them one by one as soon as your Residence hits level 10. Phase 3: Choosing Your Strategy Your tribe dictates your early-game "vibe": : Focus on Traps

and Crannied storage. They are the best for "turtling" (defensive play) while you build your economy safely.

: You must be aggressive. Build Clubswingers immediately and start raiding inactive players (farms) to supplement your resource growth.

: Take advantage of the double-build ability. Always have one resource field and one city building under construction simultaneously. Pro Tips for the Start

Gold Usage: If you use Gold, prioritize the +25% Resource Production for all four types. It is the single most efficient way to stay ahead of the curve.

The "NPC Merchant": Use this tool to balance your resources. If you have 2000 Iron but need Wood for Settlers, trade them at a 1:1 ratio to avoid waiting hours for natural production.

Find an Alliance: Join a local group within the first 48 hours. Not only for protection, but for the Alliance Bonuses which can significantly increase your resource production or troop speed.

    Days 1–3

    Days 4–7

On a fresh server, players go to bed on Day 1. You do not.

On Day 1, join the first open alliance you see (usually called "Noobs United" or similar). Use them for protection.

    1. The "Gold Club" Gap Let’s be honest. If you are playing a standard server (non-speed, non-gold-locked), the Gold Club (or equivalent premium features) breaks the start. Players using gold to instantly complete tasks or boost resource production will be in the Top 10 while you are still trying to figure out how to build a warehouse. Verdict: If you want a fair start, search for "Gold Free" or "Champion" servers.

    2. Sleep is a Resource The infamous Travian Alarm Clock. To be competitive at the start, you set a timer for 3:00 AM to send your army out again so your cranny doesn’t overflow. If you have a job, a family, or a life, you will fall behind by Day 3. The game does not pause for you.

    3. The "Sitter" Meta Top players don’t play alone. They have account sitters rotating shifts. You are not competing against one person; you are competing against three people in a trench coat managing one village. If you are a solo player, the server start feels incredibly lonely and hopeless once the big alliances form on Day 2.

Most players send settlers to a new location unprotected. That is suicide.

    OUR FILMS
This archive is essentially a celebration of cinema from Bengal through words and still images. Yet, no celebration of cinema is complete without a tribute from moving images. In this section, BFA presents short films about unsung foot soldiers, forgotten studios and ageing single screens that have silently contributed to make cinema larger-than-life. For us, their unheard stories deserve to be in the limelight as much as those of the icons who have created magic in front of the lens.

    Lost?

The iconic Paradise Cinema has been a cherished part of Kolkata's cine history. Nirmal De’s Sare Chuattor marked its first Bengali screening in 1953, amidst a legacy primarily dedicated to Hindi films. From the triple-layered curtains covering its single screen to the chilled air from the running ACs wafting through its doors during intervals, each detail of Paradise’s majestic allure is still ingrained in the fond memories of its patrons. One such patron is Junaid Ahmed. BFA joins this Dharmatala resident as he recollects his days of being a witness to paradise on earth in this Bijoy Chowdhury film

    House of Memories
    House of Memories

Almost anyone with a wee bit of interest in cinema from Bengal can lead to Satyajit Ray's rented house on Bishop Lefroy Road. But how many know where Ajoy Kar, Asit Sen, Arundhati Devi or Ritwik Ghatak lived? Or for that matter, Prithviraj Kapoor or KL Saigal during their Kolkata years? In case you are among those who walk past iconic addresses without a clue about their famous residents, this section is a must-watch for you. We have painstakingly tried to locate residential addresses of icons from the early days of their career and time-travelled to 2022 to see how the houses are maintained now.
