If the clean ASCII copy fails, the error is somewhere inside the command stream. Use the “Halving” method: Sometimes the file is valid, but the error persists
Symptom: Large 50MB model worked fine on local drive but failed on the server.
Cause: The network drive disconnected for 2 seconds during the save, truncating the last 200 bytes. The FINISH command was missing.
Solution: Opened the file in Notepad, typed FINISH at the end, and saved. Problem solved.
If you can open the file in Notepad, but STAAD rejects it entirely, you must rebuild the command file manually.
