They Are Billions Reset Tech Tree «720p»

The Campaign in They Are Billions is a rogue-lite narrative experience. You earn Empire Points (tech currency) by completing missions, finding hidden crates, and winning swarms. The tech tree is massive, requiring strategic specialization.

Can you reset mid-campaign? No. Once you spend those points, they are locked in. There is no "tech tree respec" button in the campaign menu.

So how do you do it? You have two options: the "Cheese" method and the "Brute Force" method.

No. The developers (Numantian Games) did not include a built-in “Reset Techs” or “Refund Tech Points” button.

Why?
The Tech Tree is meant to represent long-term player progression. Resetting would allow players to re-spec for each specific map (e.g., take farming heavily on Map 2, then reset for Map 3’s low food). The devs want permanent consequences for tech choices. they are billions reset tech tree

⚠️ Important: This applies to Survival Mode only. Campaign Mode has a completely different tech system (research via research points found in missions, also no respec without save editing).

This is the only true "reset" for the campaign. You must wipe your campaign progress entirely to reclaim your points.

  • Look for the Campaign save files. They are usually named CampaignSave_0.sav or similar.
  • Delete or move these files to a backup folder.
  • Restart the game. The campaign will now be fresh. You start at Mission 1 with zero tech points.
  • Vererdict: This is a nuclear option. You lose all mission progress, but you regain the ability to re-spend your points. This is useful if you spent 5 hours going down a dead-end tech path (like over-investing in Tesla tower range before building farms).

Best for most players: Delete TechTree.sav and start over – you’ll re-earn tech points quickly while playing smarter.
For minimal loss: Use a community save editor to uncheck specific techs while keeping your total points.

The TAB community created a mod called the "They Are Billions Unlocker" (use at your own risk, disable for multiplayer achievements). This mod occasionally allows for "Tech Refund" buttons in debug mode. However, for vanilla players, the save deletion is king.

Pro Tip for Campaign: Before resetting, load a save from before you spent your points. If you don't have one, learn to hard save before opening the tech tree.

In a standard Survival Mode match, players earn Research Points by building Workshops and extracting gold. Players can undo their technology investments, effectively resetting specific branches of the tree during that specific game. This is the only true "reset" for the campaign

    How to Reset (Undo) Tech:

Strategic Implication: This "reset" allows for pivoting strategies mid-game. For example, a player might research "Sniper" tech for early defense, then sell their Snipers, undo the tech, and re-spend those points on "Lucifer" (flamethrowwer) tech for a final wave push.

Because no official reset exists, players use these manual methods:

This report clarifies the mechanics regarding the "resetting" of the Technology Tree in the RTS/Colony Survival game They Are Billions. Unlike traditional 4X strategy games where technology persists across playthroughs, They Are Billions treats technology as a resource purchased via "Research Points."

The ability to "reset" or "undo" technology choices is strictly limited to the active game session in Survival Mode. There is currently no mechanic to reset the Global Technology Tree to re-play the campaign with a blank slate, as progression is linear and cumulative.
