The Mentalist Bluray Exclusive May 2026
DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Dialogue is crystal clear (Jane’s whispers and quips alike). The surround channels are used subtly—mostly for ambient office chatter, birds at the CBI, or the rustle of a suspect’s clothing. Don’t expect an action-mix; this is a dialogue-driven show. But when a gunshot happens, it has appropriate punch.
The exclusive’s main audio upgrade is a new, isolated score track for 10 key episodes (including the S3 finale, “Strawberries and Cream”), allowing Blake Neely’s underrated jazzy-thriller compositions to breathe.
A 90-minute documentary exclusive to the Amazon UK Blu-ray set. It features new (at the time) interviews with Simon Baker (Patrick Jane), Robin Tunney (Teresa Lisbon), and creator Bruno Heller. They discuss the pressure of the Red John mythology and how the show pivoted after the reveal. the mentalist bluray exclusive
One of the most sought-after aspects of TV Blu-rays is the "Extended Episode." While The Mentalist did not have a reputation for radical re-edits (unlike, say, The Lord of the Rings films or Suicide Squad), the Blu-ray occasionally offered subtle timing differences.
Broadcast TV is subject to strict timing blocks. The Blu-ray versions of episodes occasionally feature longer cuts of scenes—lingering glances between Jane and Lisbon, or extended interrogation sequences—that were trimmed to fit the exacting demands of CBS’s commercial breaks. While not marketed as "Director's Cuts," these versions represent the purest narrative version of the show. DTS-HD Master Audio 5
Exclusive sets contain roughly 45 minutes of footage cut from the broadcast versions. Notably, an extended cut of the Season 6 finale ("Red John") adds a 7-minute dialogue sequence between Jane and Kirkland that was removed for time.
