Sonic XG (which stands for "X-treme Graphics," a nod to the canceled Sega Saturn title Sonic X-treme) was originally developed by a creator known as Nitemite. Built on the "Sonic Worlds" engine (a Game Maker creation), it was celebrated for its incredibly smooth physics, a stark contrast to the clunky mechanics of official titles released in the mid-2000s.

The game is famous for its stellar level design. Unlike many fan games that focus solely on speed, Sonic XG balanced momentum-based platforming with exploration. It introduced original Zones like "Sunset Heights" and "Crystal Dimension," becoming a gold standard for how 2D Sonic should play.

On the game’s main page, click the "Downloads" tab. Do not click the Windows .exe file. Look for a file named something like: Sonic Xg Android Game Jolt-

Pro tip: Read the description. Sometimes the Android build is hidden under "Old Files" or "Experimental Builds." Check the comments for a pinned link from the developer.
