Game.iso (4.5 GB) → Game.chd (~1.8 GB) ps2 iso roms highly compressed
While the idea of saving hard drive space is appealing, there are trade-offs you need to know before downloading these files.
A standard PS2 ISO is a 1:1 copy of the game disc. It contains everything: the game data, the audio tracks, video cutscenes, and even the "padding" data used to optimize disc read speeds. Tools needed:
A "highly compressed" ISO usually involves two things:
You might see games that were originally 4GB compressed down to 200MB or 500MB. Steps (namDHC):
If you already have a library of full-sized ISOs, you don't need to re-download them. Convert them yourself.
Use a tool called "CISO" or "MaxCSO." Select compression level 9 (maximum). This turns a 3GB ISO into a 900MB CSO that AetherSX2 can read instantly.
When we say "highly compressed," we aren't talking about standard .zip or .rar files. Standard compression might save you 10–15% of space. Highly compressed PS2 ROMs often shrink a 4 GB game down to 300 MB or 700 MB.
