2021 - Problem Loading Acadres.dll Resource File Autocad

Even if the file is present, Windows may have "locked" it because it came from another computer (a flag applied during installation).

  • Find the file named acadres.dll.
  • Right-click the file and select Properties.
  • On the General tab, look for a Security section with a checkbox labeled "Unblock".
  • Check the box and click OK.

    • If you do not see the "Unblock" checkbox, the file is not locked, but you can proceed to Solution 3.

    When launching AutoCAD 2021 or attempting to use specific commands (such as OPEN, SAVE, or PLOT), the application crashes or displays one of the following error messages:

    This error indicates that AutoCAD cannot locate a critical Dynamic Link Library (DLL) file responsible for holding the program's resources (menus, icons, and dialog box templates).

    This error appears when AutoCAD can’t find or load its language/resource DLL (AcadRes.dll), so interface strings, dialog text, or menus are missing and the program may crash or show garbled text. Common triggers are corrupted installation files, wrong language packs, missing/corrupt registry paths, incorrect permissions, or antivirus/quarantine action.

    Check if your antivirus software has quarantined the file.

    A corrupted user profile can trigger DLL loading errors. Resetting to default settings often fixes it.
