If you force-install the original 2017 driver on macOS Ventura or Sonoma, you risk a kernel panic. Apple removed support for legacy system extensions (kexts) that the old Pioneer driver relies on. The new driver replaces these with modern DriverKit extensions.

Cause: USB bandwidth saturation. Fix: Connect the DDJ-S1 to a dedicated USB 2.0 port (blue USB 3.0 ports often cause interference). If you are on a laptop, disable USB selective suspend in Power Options.
Pro Tip: If audio drops out on Mac, go to Audio MIDI Setup (Applications/Utilities). Create an Aggregate Device containing only the DDJ-S1, then select that aggregate in Serato.
