This version actually does load on an emulator. It is a hacked NES ROM (usually a 1MB or 2MB file) where the programmer has created a menu that lists 99,999 entries. However, if you scroll down, you will see:

When you turned the cartridge on, you were usually greeted with a red or blue screen listing games. You’d scroll down to Contra, press start, and have a blast. But if you hit the reset button enough times—or sometimes just selected a specific "Game 001"—the menu would reset. Suddenly, the numbering would start over, or the games would reshuffle. Technically, the cartridge was claiming to offer endless variations of the same menu. In reality, you were usually getting about 15 to 50 actual games repeated over and over.
