Many N1996 boards have an older BIOS that will not recognize 2 GB DDR2 modules unless they are "low density" (16-chip, 8 chips per side). Modern "high density" 2 GB DDR2 sticks often cause boot failures. If upgrading, use 1 GB sticks for guaranteed stability.
