Hey everyone,
I’ve seen a few questions pop up regarding Mitutoyo Absolute Digimatic Calipers displaying Error Code E05. I recently dealt with this on a 500-196-30 model and wanted to share a quick troubleshooting guide for anyone currently stuck.
What does E05 mean? On most Mitutoyo ABS calipers, Error 05 typically indicates an overspeed error or a scale contamination issue. The sensor is having trouble reading the scale track, either because it is moving too fast for the processor to keep up, or because dirt/debris is interrupting the signal. mitutoyo caliper error code e05 link
Here is the step-by-step fix:
1. The "Soft" Reset Before taking anything apart, try a system reset.
2. Clean the Scale (Most Common Fix) If the reset doesn't work, you likely have debris on the scale. Body: Hey everyone, I’ve seen a few questions
3. Check Battery Voltage A low battery can cause the processor to fail during rapid movements. Swap in a fresh battery (SR44) just to rule it out.
4. Check for Physical Damage Inspect the beam. If the caliper was dropped, the beam might be slightly bent. If the jaws drag or the carriage is misaligned, the sensor gap might be compromised. Unfortunately, this usually requires factory service.
Summary:
If those three don't work, the internal encoder sensor may be damaged, and you’ll likely need to send it in for repair or replace the unit.
Hope this helps save someone some time!
You need to clean the scale surface thoroughly. causing a short or reading failure.
If the caliper was used in a wet environment without proper IP protection, water or coolant may have penetrated the sensor enclosure, causing a short or reading failure.
