V146 - Maplestory

There are several "old-school" servers that specifically host v146 or v144.

He was right. v146 existed in a sweet spot. The classes felt distinct. You played a Hero for Raging Blow; you played a Night Lord for Showdown. The game was difficult enough to require parties, but accessible enough that you didn't need to treat it like a second job.

Because the damage cap was gone, the meta shifted from level grinding to gear min-maxing. Players in v146 lived in:

Leveling past 200 was still a flex (due to the Tempest event’s lingering XP curve), but it wasn't mandatory. A Level 170 with 2m-2m range could outdamage a Level 210 with 1m-1m range.
