If none of the above works, you may have a hardware-bound license issue (e.g., after replacing a motherboard or SSD). Contact Microsoft support with:

slmgr /upk
slmgr /cpky
slmgr /rearm

Restart PC, then try installing your license again.

If you have a valid product key and want to reinstall the license manually, use the Office Click-to-Run deployment tool. If none of the above works, you may

  • Clear the current license: cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus (This shows installed license keys – note the last 5 characters of any key)
  • Uninstall all found product keys: cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey:XXXXX (replace XXXXX with the last 5 chars)
  • Install your new license: cscript ospp.vbs /inpkey:YOUR-PRODUCT-KEY-HERE
  • Activate: cscript ospp.vbs /act
  • License bound to different machine ID

  • Expired or revoked license

  • Certificate or signing mismatch

  • Network/activation server unreachable

  • Conflicting or outdated licensing service

  • Try these solutions in order. Most users will succeed by step 3. Restart PC, then try installing your license again

    Since error 0xc03f6601 is a licensing service failure, resetting the Software Protection Platform (SPP) often works.

    If the system files (sppsvc.exe or systemcpl.dll) have been modified to bypass activation (common in pirated software), the checksum validation fails. When you try to install a legitimate license later, the SPP engine detects the tampering and rejects the new license installation. Clear the current license: cscript ospp
