As an urban feminist geographer with a research interest in African cities, I was initially pleased when the web series, An African City, debuted in 2014. The series was released on YouTube and also available online at www. anafricancity.tv. Within the first few weeks of its release, An African City had over one million views. Created by Nicole Amarteifio, a Ghanaian who grew up in London and the United States, An African City is offered as the African answer to Sex and the City, and as a counter-narrative to popular depictions of African women as poor, unfashionable, unsuccessful and uneducated.

"Libertadores" is a symphonic poem famously divided into two distinct sections that evoke the spirit of the Amazon and the struggle for freedom. Structure:

Part I (Amazonas): Atmospheric and primitive, utilizing indigenous-inspired sounds and percussion to "submerge the audience into the heart of the Amazon Forest".

Part II (March of the Liberators): Martial and triumphant, featuring a powerful final burst with military drums that elevates the "liberators" theme.

Critical Reception: Reviews often highlight the work's sensory appeal and emotional explosion. Navarro himself describes his ideology as "seducing and captivating" the audience through sensations rather than strictly intellectual traps.

Instrumentation Highlights: The score is noted for its extensive percussion section, including Shekere, Darbuka, D'Jembe, and various forest-mimicking effects.

If Libertadores refers to South American independence themes:

While the "Libertadores Oscar Navarro PartituraPDF UPD" is convenient for study on a tablet, this piece requires huge page turns. Many professional conductors buy the PDF, print it on A3 paper, and bind it.

If you find a PDF claiming to be "UPD" but it is only 35 pages long—be suspicious. The complete, updated full score runs approximately 48 pages because Navarro expanded the percussion appendix in the revision.

Óscar Navarro’s Libertadores is a powerful, programmatic work for symphonic band that captures the spirit of historical liberation movements in Latin America. Originally commissioned by the “Unión Musical de Llíria” (Spain), the piece has become a staple of advanced wind band repertoire due to its cinematic scope, rhythmic intensity, and lush harmonic language.

The “updated” (upd) PDF edition refers to the corrected and revised version of the score and parts—addressing prior errata, optimizing page turns, and clarifying articulation and dynamic markings per Navarro’s 2019–2021 revisions.

Composed in 2008, Libertadores (Spanish for "The Liberators") is a one-movement concerto dedicated to the memory of the great trumpet players who broke down technical barriers. The piece is programmatic: it depicts a fierce battle, a lyrical lament for the fallen, and a triumphant victory. It demands not only incredible range (reaching high F# and beyond) but also mature musicality.

Because of its popularity, the demand for the partitura (full score) has exploded. Ensembles want to study Navarro’s orchestration; conductors need to cue the complex rhythms; and students dream of analyzing the harmonic language.
