The KJ33 router setup might seem daunting at first due to the generic interface and minimal documentation, but by following this guide, you can transform an inexpensive 4G router into a reliable home or travel hotspot. Remember the golden rules:
If your KJ33 router continues to fail after multiple reset attempts, the hardware may be defective (common in ultra-budget models). However, for most users, this guide will get you online within 10 minutes.
Need more help? Check the chipset on your mainboard (often a Mediatek MT7628 or ZTE ICU). Search for that chipset name plus "OpenWrt" for custom firmware possibilities—but that is an advanced topic for another day.
Last updated: October 2024. Compatible with KJ33, KJ33 v2, KJ33S, and generic 4G routers using the 192.168.0.1 admin interface.
This avoids double NAT.
Some ISPs lock your internet to the MAC address of your old router. In the KJ33’s Network > MAC Clone section, click "Clone MAC from PC" . This copies your computer’s MAC address to the router. Save and reboot.
