A PKG file is essentially an installer package. On a standard, unmodified PS4, these files are downloaded silently in the background when you purchase a game from the PlayStation Store.
However, in the context of "downloading sites," a PKG file refers to a dumped copy of a digital game or an update patch. These files can be transferred to a PS4 and installed, but there is a major catch: you cannot simply copy a PKG file to a USB drive and install it on a standard PS4.
For those with a jailbroken console, you don’t always need a PC. The "Homebrew Store" application can be installed directly on the PS4. This allows you to download free indie games, emulators, and utilities directly to your console without a PC intermediary.
