Alyssa is defined by absence: no spoken lines, minimal inventory, low hit points. This fragility makes every encounter tense. The Complacent characters repeat scripted affirmations (“You just need to try harder”) — a clear critique of toxic resilience narratives. The Adjusters, conversely, speak in conditional logic (“If you were supposed to be here, you would be”).
A short, character-driven science fiction vignette about Alyssa, a 28-year-old urban courier and amateur coder, navigating a near-future city reshaped by algorithmic governance, automated labor, and the uneven fallout of climate adaptation. Version 1.6 tightens pacing, deepens Alyssa’s internal stakes, and refocuses the story on one catalytic night when she must choose between personal survival and a risky act of conscience.
Earlier versions had a spike in Act 2 (The Hall of Adjusted Echoes). Version 1.6 introduces a safe room before the spike, containing a readable note that hints at the solution. This lowers frustration without handholding.
