Evil Dead Vibes

When her father falls mysteriously ill, a young woman visits his old villa to find answers, only to discover he made a deal with the devil. She and her step-siblings must fight for survival against demonic forces.

Timo Tjahjanto is half of The Mo Brothers, and his style is pure chaos. This film is the Indonesian answer to Evil Dead and Drag Me to Hell.

The Plot: When a father dabbles in a demonic pact to save his business, he inadvertently curses his family. Years later, his stepdaughter and estranged daughter must survive a night of demonic possession, body horror, and a house that is literally rotting from sin.

Subtitle note: There is a sequel ( May the Devil Take You Too ), which is also excellent. The subtitles handle the complex step-family dynamics well. Watch for the scene where a character is possessed and speaks in ancient Dutch-Indonesian creole; the subtitles translate the historical rage behind the curse.
