This is the standard method for 90% of users. The process takes 5–7 minutes.

| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution | |------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------|------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Web interface shows “Upgrade failed”| Incompatible firmware or checksum mismatch | Verify hardware version; obtain correct regional firmware. | | ONT stuck in reboot loop | Corrupt flash or wrong bootloader | Recover via serial console + JTAG (requires proprietary Huawei tools). | | Telnet refused after upgrade | Firmware disables Telnet by default | Enable via web UI (if accessible) or try SSH. | | No internet after upgrade | WAN settings reset to default | Re-enter ISP’s VLAN ID, PPPoE credentials, or DHCP option. | | Wi-Fi missing or unstable | New firmware resets regulatory domain | Manually set country code and channel in Wi-Fi settings. |

ISPs push configurations via TR-069. If your router keeps resetting to factory defaults or you cannot obtain an IP address, your firmware's ACS (Auto-Configuration Server) module may be out of sync with your provider.
