Unlike mainstream Pashto cinema or Peshawar’s historic film industry (Cinepax, Qissa Khwani Bazaar’s old cinemas), Hayatabad has emerged as a hub for “extra filmography”—amateur, often low-budget, user-generated content including vlogs, wedding cinematography, political satire, police encounters, real estate promotions, and music videos. Using digital ethnography and content analysis of 150 popular videos (1M+ views total), the study identifies recurring themes, production aesthetics, and socio-political functions. It concludes that Hayatabad’s video culture serves as a parallel, democratized filmography shaped by youth, smartphones, and Pashtun digital identity.
