Step 1: Locate your directory
Navigate to your GTA V main folder (e.g., C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V).
Step 2: Use the Mods folder (Crucial!)
You should have a folder named mods in your root directory. Inside that, go to:
mods\update\update.rpf\common\data
Step 3: Replace the file
Using OpenIV, open the update.rpf. Navigate to common/data. You will see the original gameconfig.xml. Rename the old one to gameconfig.xml.OLD (just in case). Drag and drop the new "gta 5 gameconfig 102189 new" file into this window.
Step 4: DLC Compatibility
If you crash when entering a DLC vehicle (like the Grotti Itali RSX), you must also install a compatible dlclist.xml file. Ensure your gameconfig matches the number of DLC packs you have active. gta 5 gameconfig 102189 new
Step 5: Launch and Test Launch the game. If you get to the story mode camera pan over Los Santos, you are likely successful.
The most stable version currently available for this build is maintained by F7YO and updated by Reyser.

With these five elements aligned, you can push Los Santos to its absolute limit. So go ahead—add that 500-car pack, turn Los Santos into a warzone, and drive a Ferrari down the Vinewood strip at 200 mph. The game won't crash. Thanks to a tiny XML file, the city is finally yours to break.

In Grand Theft Auto V, the gameconfig.xml file acts as the "brain" of the game's configuration. It is located within the common/data folder. It controls global parameters such as: Download Source: Search for "Reyser gameconfig 102189" on
Why do you need a modified version?
The stock gameconfig.xml provided by Rockstar Games is optimized for the vanilla game. It has strict memory limits. If you install OpenIV ASI Loader, ScriptHookV, or Add-on Car Mods, the game will quickly exceed these limits, resulting in a crash (often with an "ERR_MEM_MULTIALLOC" error or a silent crash to the desktop).
A "New GameConfig" mod modifies these values (usually doubling or quadrupling them) to allow the game to handle heavy modding.
