The game is a prequel to the entire God of War saga, set six months after Kratos killed his wife and daughter under Ares’ deception. Kratos is still a mortal servant of the gods, but he has broken his blood oath to Ares. For this betrayal, the Furies — ancient goddesses of punishment — are hunting him.
The Furies attack the city of Kirra, creating a massive sea monster (the Manticore) to stop Kratos.
