The Prologue: The Seed of Hate (1941)
The story begins not with the protagonist, but with the background of the conflict. In 1941, in the coal-rich town of Wasseypur (near Dhanbad, India), a feud exists between the Pathans and the Qureshis (a butcher community).
Shahid Khan, a Pathan, begins impersonating the legendary dacoit Sultana Daku to rob coal trains. This angers the real dacoit. However, the local coal mine owner, a cunning businessman named Ramadhir Singh, sees an opportunity. Ramadhir Singh hires Shahid Khan to work for him but eventually betrays him to save his own skin. Shahid Khan is brutally murdered by the Qureshis under Ramadhir’s orders.
Shahid Khan’s young son, Sardar Khan, witnesses the humiliation and exile of his family. They are forced to leave Wasseypur and settle in the slums. Act 1: The Rise of Sardar Khan (The 1970s)
Years later, Sardar Khan grows up to be a fearless and reckless young man (played by Manoj Bajpayee). He is messy, crude, and fiercely loyal to his mission. He starts his career as a small-time goon working for a local contractor but soon realizes that to hurt Ramadhir, he must enter the coal business.

Ramadhir Singh, realizing he cannot defeat Sardar through fair means, decides to play dirty. He aligns with Sultan Qureshi. The conspiracy is set in motion during a political rally.
In a shocking twist, Danish Khan is assassinated. While Sardar is away, the enemies strike his family. Danish is shot dead. This tragedy breaks Sardar Khan. The heir he was grooming is gone.
Simultaneously, Sardar is betrayed by his own associate, Singh, who is bribed by Ramadhir.
The Climax
The film moves toward its bloody conclusion. Sardar Khan, unaware of the full extent of the trap, tries to regroup. He is desperate and vulnerable.
In a parallel track, the weakling Faizal Khan is forced to step up. When the enemies come for the rest of the family, Faizal, in a moment of adrenaline and primal instinct, picks up a gun and shoots his cousin (who had betrayed them). It is the first sign that the "useless" son has his father's fire.
The movie ends with a massive cliffhanger. Sardar Khan is cornered. He goes to Durga’s house, seeking refuge. But the enemies are closing in. Sultan Qureshi and his men find him.
In a final, brutal sequence, Sardar Khan is shot multiple times. As he bleeds out, he sees his youngest son, Perpendicular, and his infant child. He tries to crawl towards them but dies on the street, his revenge incomplete.
The Aftermath
Ramadhir Singh believes he has won. The "Tiger" of Wasseypur is dead.
However, the camera pans to Faizal Khan. The stoner, the boy who loved movies, walks toward his father's corpse. The look in his eyes has changed. The fear is gone, replaced by a cold, dead stare.
The screen cuts to black. The silence signifies the end of Part 1, but the birth of a new monster. Sardar Khan is dead, but the war is far from over. Faizal Khan will return in Part 2 to finish what his grandfather started.
