Introduccin
Desde el tiempo de la antigua Grecia, se ha practicado como actividad fsica el levantamiento de pesos o cargas externas, que estimulen el desarrollo muscular y por ende de la fuerza. Hipcrates explic por primera vez de que se trataba el entrenamiento con peso cuando escribi:
"l que utiliza esto se desarrolla, y quien no lo utiliza est desperdiciando su tiempo".
El entrenamiento de resistencia progresiva data mnimamente de la Antigua Grecia, personajes legendarios como el luchador Miln de Crotona entrenaba llevando un ternero recin nacido sobre su espalda todos los das hasta que este creci, con este ejemplo podemos percibir que de forma consciente o inconsciente se bosquejaban principios del entrenamiento deportivo, como es la progresin de la carga.
Otro griego, el mdico Galeno, describi el entrenamiento de fuerza usando halteras, una antigua forma de mancuernas, para el desarrollo muscular y entrenamiento del cuerpo.
En los aos sesenta se comenzaron a implementar la mquina de ejercicio en los gimnasios. El entrenamiento con pesas aument su popularidad en la dcada de 1980 debido a una gran influencia de los medios de comunicacin; pues el cine fue un medio por el cual se iniciaron a lucir cuerpos estructuralmente fuertes e hipertrofiados.
Desde los aos noventa inicia un incremento significativo de la presencia de las mujeres en los gimnasios, practicando el levantamiento de pesos como actividad fsica saludable, y con la implementacin de programas de entrenamiento.
Muchos trabajos cientficos pueden aportar pruebas de la influencia positiva del entrenamiento prolongado sobre el sistema cardiopulmonar (Hollmann, Hettinger, 1990). Segn Banzer (1989) una actividad deportiva prolongada reduce el riesgo de aparicin de enfermedades cardiacas coronarias. En particular se habla de una disminucin a la mitad del riesgo de enfermar y de una reduccin de la mortalidad en un tercio. Conforme a esto, el entrenamiento para la salud en forma de entrenamiento de resistencia est orientado a prevenir los problemas cardiovasculares. Ya en los aos setenta Welsch, Harre y Donath (1974) llamaron la atencin sobre el predominio del entrenamiento de resistencia en el deporte de tiempo libre y relajacin.
En los ltimos aos el entrenamiento orientado a desarrollar la fuerza muscular se ha considerado importante para la salud y la capacidad de rendimiento psicofsico (Zimmermman, 2004).
La Musculacin
Es una alternativa de actividad fsica basada generalmente en ejercicio fsico de media a alta intensidad, con la finalidad encontrar un equilibrio muscular entre los segmentos corporales, generalmente se utilizan estmulos anaerbicos, principalmente se desarrolla en los gimnasios.
Tambin se le llama musculacin a la actividad encaminada a hipertrofiar el msculo sin llegar a un desarrollo competitivo.
La musculacin al ser un entrenamiento con pesas, provoca transformaciones inducidas en las fibras musculares como son los micro traumas; estas pequeas lesiones en el msculo contribuyen al cansancio experimentado tras el ejercicio. La reparacin de los micro traumas, forman parte del crecimiento muscular mejor conocido como hipertrofia.
El msculo estriado
Formados por clulas o fibras alargadas y multinucleadas que sitan sus ncleos en la periferia. Estn constituidos por las protenas de Actina y Miosina. El cuerpo humano tiene ms de 650 msculos, que constituyen la mitad del peso corporal de una persona, pues aproximadamente de un 40% es de este tipo de msculo y un 10% de msculo cardaco y liso (Hansen, Koeppen, 2004).
Los msculos son masas de tejido elstico y resistente que tiran de nuestros huesos cuando nos movemos. En conjunto con los huesos, articulaciones y los tendones, ligamentos y cartlagos; conforman nuestro sistema msculo esqueltico que nos permite realizar las actividades fsicas diarias, pues ejercen una accin de traccin sobre las articulaciones, provocando el movimiento corporal, impactando tambin en el organismo en desarrollar otras actividades de conservacin y mantenimiento (Hansen, Koeppen, 2004).
Los msculos son los motores del movimiento, pues al ser un haz de fibras, cuya propiedad ms destacada es la contractilidad, adems de poseer otras como la excitabilidad, extensibilidad y elasticidad, pero debido a la contractilidad, el paquete de fibras musculares se contraen cuando recibe la orden de la neurona motora y es ah donde interviene la excitabilidad (Hansen, Koeppen, 2004).
La Hipertrofia muscular es el nombre cientfico dado al fenmeno de crecimiento en tamao de las clulas musculares, lo que supone un aumento de tamao de las fibras musculares y por lo tanto del msculo. Tcnicamente es el crecimiento de las clulas musculares sin que exista una divisin celular, el msculo sometido a este cambio ofrece por igual una mejor respuesta a la carga.
Existen dos formas de crecimiento muscular o hipertrofia; miofibrilar y sarcoplasmtica.
a. La hipertrofia miofibrilar
Se produce por el aumento de las miofibrillas que contiene la fibra muscular. Al tener ms miofibrillas la clula se ensancha, provocando que los msculos tambin se agranden en cierta medida. El msculo se vuelve ms fuerte y tambin ms duro ya que aumentan sus unidades contrctiles. Este tipo de hipertrofia se consigue sobre todo entrenando con pesos altos y bajas repeticiones. Adems, este tipo de entrenamiento es el indicado para producir la adaptacin neurolgica que induce al cerebro a reclutar ms fibras, aumentando la fuerza (Zimmermman, 2004).
b. La hipertrofia sarcoplasmatica
Es debida al aumento de la cantidad de fluido que contienen las fibras del msculo. Entre estos fluidos est el glucgeno que sirve de combustible para generar ATP para las contracciones musculares. Este fluido o Sarcoplasma representa el 25-30% del tamao total del msculo. Esta hipertrofia se consigue con el entrenamiento de altas repeticiones. Las repeticiones altas agotan el glucgeno en los msculos de forma que al volver a recargarse, aumenta la cantidad de fluidos contenidos en la clula. El tamao aumentar, pero en este caso no hay aumento de fuerza, sino slo la cantidad de energa disponible para el msculo (Zimmermman, 2004).
Mtodos
En el 2009 se realiz un estudio donde se encontr que; el 76.73% de la poblacin de Veracruz y Boca del Ro pagan por la prctica fsica, tal es el caso de nuestra muestra, pues al asistir a un gimnasio deben pagar por su ingreso, otro dato significativo del estudio mencionado que se apega a lo encontrado en el presente, es que gnero que se ejercita con mayor frecuencia son los varones con un 71.93% y de ellos de los cuales un 4.91% asiste a los gimnasios (Figueroa, 2009)
La poblacin de objeto para realizar la investigacin, fue la de la ciudad de Veracruz y Boca del Ro, Mxico, pues se visitaron 12 gimnasios ubicados en esta zona conurbada, para realizar el estudio a personas que estuvieran inscritos y estuvieran en la disponibilidad de contestar verdicamente cada uno de los tems planteados en el instrumento de recoleccin de la informacin, el total de la muestra fue de 231 sujetos de los cuales el 70% (164) son hombres, el 30% (67) son mujeres con una promedio de 25.4 y 23.9 aos respectivamente.
En la tabla 1. Podemos observar de forma detallada algunas de las caractersticas de la poblacin que asiste a los gimnasios a la prctica de la musculacin como actividad fsica. Dentro de los datos sociodemogrficos de la muestra podemos destacar que; el 75% (173) son solteros, y esta condicin la podemos asociar a que un 61% (141 sujetos) piensan que; en el gimnasio es un medio para conocer personas, mientras que la frecuencia de personas en estado civil de casados es de un 15% (35).
En la misma tabla 1., podemos observar que las formas de la prctica son muy similares en los diferentes gimnasios, pues sus usuarios asisten en un 71% (164) de 4 a 5 das de la semana, y con una duracin de su rutina de ejercicios de 1 hora con el 65% (150 sujetos).
Otro dato relevante es el motivo de la prctica, pues el 42.2% lo hace por deporte, mientras que el 32% por esttica y tan solo un 25.5% por salud.

Otro dato obtenido en la intervencin fue el nivel de estudios de la muestra, siendo un 68% est cursando estudios de licenciatura, el 25% cursa el nivel de bachillerato y un 7% son profesionistas, la combinacin de la musculacin con alguna otra modalidad deportiva, es de un 40%, mientras que un 60% solo prctica la musculacin. Mientras un 60% dicen sentir satisfaccin por cumplir sus objetivos y el 40% mencin alcanzarlos medianamente.
Podemos observar la presencia de un tipo de motivacin extrnseca, pues se encontr que un 71% (164 sujetos) de la muestra afirman que, practicar la musculacin Les permite ser bien visto por la gente que los rodea y el 81% (187 sujetos) percibe que; Es estrictamente necesario hacer ejercicio si desean estar en forma.
Conclusiones
La comunidad que asiste al gimnasio es principalmente masculina y estos a su vez fueron los que presentaron mayor edad con respecto a su contraparte femenina, esto habla de una heterogeneidad marcada dentro de un gimnasio de pesas donde las personas pueden entablar algn tipo de vnculo sentimental.
Podemos denotar que los gimnasios estn mayormente visitados por universitarios, solteros y en busca de las relaciones sociales, pues el predominio de grado acadmico es la licenciatura, as como que son 5 das a la semana los que acuden al gimnasio para el ejercicio con pesas, con un promedio de edad de 24 aos y utilizan los das de actividad escolar para el desempeo del ejercicio fsico.
Es de gusto generalizado asistir al gimnasio de manera individual, este motivo es porque la interaccin social dentro del recinto es abundante tal como los demostr esta investigacin, pues conocer nuevas personas es un fuerte factor motivacional, incluso por encima de conocer nuevas tcnicas de entrenamiento y sentir satisfaccin al realizar ejecuciones de un alto nivel de dificultad
El conglomerado de participantes asegur que es indispensable hacer ejercicio para estar en una buena forma fsica, lo interesante es que interpretan buena forma fsica el verse estticamente atractivo para el sexo opuesto y para sus crculos sociales adyacentes. Dejando de lado varios aspectos esenciales como el desarrollo y el estmulo de las capacidades fsicas condicionales, el mejoramientos de su capacidad aerbica ente otras.
Concluimos que la prctica de la musculacin estimula el desarrollo de ciertos valores humanos tales como la disciplina, la constancia y el compaerismo, a su vez aumentando la autoestima de quien la prctica, debido al desarrollo y mejoramientos del aspecto fsico; creando un sentido de pertenencia a un grupo social paralelo al resto de su vida cotidiana.
