Corruption Of Champions 2 Chest Puzzle Patched

Example riddle above:

Possible arrangement (left to right): Green – Red – Blue
Check: Red not center ✓; Blue not left ✓; Green not next to Blue? Green (left) is adjacent to Red (center), not Blue (right) ✓.

If you have spent any time in the Savarra-adjacent forums, Fenoxo’s blog comments, or the game’s official Discord server, you have likely seen the whispers: “The chest puzzle was patched.” For new players, this phrase is confusing. For veterans, it sparks a mixture of relief and disappointment.

Corruption of Champions 2 (CoC2), a text-based adult RPG developed by Fenoxo and Savin, is known for its complex mechanics, branching narratives, and frustratingly opaque puzzles. Among these, the “Old Forest Chest Puzzle” (often referred to as the Runed Chest or Elemental Lockbox) has become legendary. But has it truly been patched? And if so, what does that mean for your playthrough? corruption of champions 2 chest puzzle patched

Let’s break down the history of the puzzle, the recent patches (up to the current public build as of late 2025), and what the future holds.

There was a notorious bug in versions 1.2.x and earlier. If a player failed the chest puzzle, they could simply leave the zone, save, reload, and return—the chest would reset its "failure lockout" but keep the correct answer marked internally. This allowed players to brute-force the puzzle by spamming random sequences, reloading after each failure, and eventually opening it with zero stat investment or logic.

This was patched. As of the current stable build (v1.5.48+), failing the puzzle locks the chest for a specific amount of in-game time (roughly 24 in-game hours) or until a major scene transition. Simply save-scumming no longer works. Because this exploit was removed, many players incorrectly say the "chest puzzle was patched" meaning "the easy exploit was patched out." Example riddle above:

The forums are split.

Savin (the lead writer) commented on Discord in May 2025: “The chest puzzle was never intended to be a community wiki boss. It was a test of pattern recognition. But pattern recognition without clues is just guessing. The patch brings it in line with our design philosophy for Act 3.”

If you are playing the latest version, here is the streamlined walkthrough: Possible arrangement (left to right): Green – Red

  • Input the Elements: Return to the chest. Interact with it. Select the elements in the order provided.
  • Claim Your Prize: No more wraiths (unless you enter a completely wrong sequence without buying hints).
  • You might ask, "It’s just one puzzle, why does it matter?"

In a game heavily focused on player agency and roleplaying, getting stopped dead in your tracks by a logic puzzle that feels like a bug is a massive momentum killer. It pulls you out of the fantasy of being a hero saving Savarra.

By patching this, the developers have shown they are listening to feedback regarding accessibility and game flow. It ensures that the pacing of the game remains high, letting players get back to what they really logged in for: building relationships with their companions and fighting the Horde.

There are generally two types of "logic" puzzles you will encounter in chests post-patch.
