Canon Service Tool — V6000

This is the most important step. The printer cannot run the service tool unless it is in "Service Mode."

If you cannot find a safe version of the V6000, consider these options:

A: There is no fixed limit, but each reset increases the risk of physical overflow. Most technicians recommend no more than 2–3 resets before replacing pads. canon service tool v6000

A: No. The tool is a Windows executable (.exe). You can try running it via Wine on Linux or a virtual machine on Mac, but direct USB passthrough often fails.

Purpose: It allows you to reset the internal counter to 0% after you have physically cleaned or replaced the ink absorber pads. This is the most important step

Newer Versions: While v6000 is common, newer versions like V6100 are now available for more recent printer models.

Service Mode Requirement: The tool will not work unless your printer is first put into "Service Mode." How to Enter Service Mode Your printer should now function as if it were brand new

For most Canon Pixma models (G, MG, MX series), follow these steps: Turn off the printer but keep it plugged in. Press and hold the Stop/Reset button. While holding Stop, press and hold the Power button. Release the Stop button (continue holding Power).

Press the Stop button 5 times (for G series, sometimes 6 times).

Release the Power button. The green light should blink and then stay solid, indicating it is in Service Mode. Critical Precautions
