These engines are carbureted (mostly) or early EFI (on the “Xi” models). Here’s the workaround:

The Idle Screw Ritual (For Carb Models)
Your Taruna will idle like a tractor when cold. Do not touch the carb’s mixture screw unless you have a gas analyzer. Instead:

The “Water in the Distributor” Trick
Rain crossing? Water always finds the distributor cap. Fix: Drill a tiny 1mm weep hole at the lowest point of the distributor cap. Then coat the rubber seal with silicone grease. This isn’t in the official manual, but it works.

The Daihatsu Taruna has specific quirks that general mechanic knowledge cannot fix. Here is why the buku manual work is non-negotiable:

The official manual says “spare tire and jack.” This is what you actually need to get home:

Before using the manual, you must identify your engine code. The Taruna came with three primary engines:

A proper buku manual Daihatsu Taruna work will cover all three, but make sure your PDF or physical book includes the Fuel Injection section if you own the OXXY.

The Taruna uses the legendary "Heart" series engines. While robust, they suffer from overheating if the cooling system isn't bled correctly. The manual shows the exact bleeding procedure. Without it, you risk a cracked cylinder head.

The Taruna uses a front torsion bar suspension. Adjusting ride height without the proper torque sequence leads to uneven tire wear and a harsh ride. The work manual provides the exact ride height measurements.
