In Japanese mythology, Amagi is the site of a great battle. Legend holds that a giant Nue (a chimera with the head of a monkey, body of a raccoon dog, limbs of a tiger, and tail of a snake) terrorized Kyoto. The Emperor sent the hero Minamoto no Yorimasa to slay it.
