Adobe continuously adapts. Over time, the company has:
Result: Hosts file blocking alone is no longer fully effective for recent Adobe CC (2022+). Additional measures (firewall outbound rules, patched DLLs, license crackers) are often required – but each carries higher risk. Back up original (in case of errors)
The act of modifying your Hosts file is legal. Using it to bypass paid licensing violates the DMCA (Section 1201) in the US and similar anti-circumvention laws in the EU. While individuals are rarely sued, the legal risk is real.
Use a third-party firewall (like Little Snitch on macOS or SimpleWall on Windows) to block specific Adobe processes. Unlike the Hosts file, firewalls can block by process name and certificate hash, not just domain. Append block entries (one per line) Example: #
Advantage: Adobe cannot bypass a process-level block by changing domains.
